Sensory Stars

Activity Descriptions
Each activity is led by a pediatric occupational therapist in a structured yet playful format.

>Sensory Stars:  3-5 years:
Activity Time: 45 minutes
This activity is designed to (1) offer a variety of sensory input in a safe and purposeful way and (2) capitalize on the calming and organizing effect of the sensory input and engage children in an age-appropriate developmental skill.  All classes will begin by enabling children to explore a variety of sensory experiences.  Some examples are: pulling a peer on a scooter board, climbing through tunnels, bouncing on a large therapy ball, pushing/pulling a peer on a swing, flying down a zip line and crashing into large pillows, and upside-down bowling.  Based on your childs individual sensory needs, our therapists will guide your child to and engage your child in sensory activities/equipment that are the most suitable. During the last fifteen minutes of the class, children will participate in a fine motor, perceptual motor, or visual motor integration task that is appropriate for pre-school and/or kindergarten age children.  Special attention to pre-writing strokes, grasp patterns on pencils/crayons, and handwriting exercises will be offered.  This activity will help your child through pre-school and prepare your child for kindergarten in the fall!
